PRESS RELEASE
APRILIA AWARDED COOL BRAND STATUS 2007/08
Some 3,265 18-35 year old urbanites responded to a survey, run by YouGov the UK’s most accurate online research agency, into all things cool and Aprilia triumphed in the motorcycle sector. Organised by Superbrands, the independent authority and arbiter on branding, the award recognises style, originality, innovation and authenticity.
Also judged by the independent and voluntary CoolBrands Council, a winning brand must be desirable and unique.
As top brand Aprilia’s entry stated - Aprilia’s primary objective remains constant – to produce specialist motorcycles and sophisticated scooters that combine class, innovation and the very best in Italian engine technology.
The CoolBrands stamp will be used by the company on all marketing material, including advertisements and websites and will be a powerful endorsement of the cool brand status.
Aprilia’s origins date back to the end of World War II when Cavalier Alberto Beggio founded a factory in Noale, a province of Venice, to manufacture bicycles. His son, Ivano, joined the business in 1968 and with the help of a dozen Aprilia employees, built the first Aprilia motorcycle.
Aprilia’s commercial success was consolidated during the 1980s when it became the market leader in motorcycles for the younger generation. In 1985 Aprilia entered the World Speed Championships and since then has won 32 world titles.
Integrated into Europe’s largest manufacturer of powered two wheeler, the Piaggio Group, in 2005, Aprilia has established itself as one of the most prestigious and successful marques over its relatively short history.
